FISHIN' FRENZY
FISHIN' FRENZY is one of those games I loaded up expecting to delete in five minutes, and then realized twenty minutes had passed. The idea is simple: you tap to cast, wait for a bite, and swipe up to reel in whatever grabbed the line. What makes it click is the timing. Each fish tugs at a slightly different rhythm, and once you learn to read the ripples you start planning your casts instead of just spamming the screen.
The controls are all one-handed, which is exactly what I want on a crowded train. There's a small upgrade track for your rod and bait, and none of it needs a connection to progress. I played the whole thing in airplane mode over a weekend and never hit a paywall or a loading screen begging for a server. Progress saves locally, so you can close the app mid-cast and pick up right where you left off.
It's not a deep game and it doesn't pretend to be. But the presentation is cheerful, the sound of a successful catch is oddly rewarding, and the difficulty creeps up gently enough that you always feel like you're improving. It's the kind of thing you keep on your phone for the moments you don't want to think.
